Another super busy week, we could hardly keep up with all the activity that was going on day to day.
They started getting ready for the windows, first they cut out all the holes...

Before & After!
Very exciting to walk around upstairs in the rooms with windows!
They also began excavating near the kitchen to dig the new foundation for the kitchen extension.

Farewell to the front steps & my rosemary plant (the one plant I didn't manage to kill with my black thumb)
Next they began digging holes all over the front & side for the footings for the new porch and sunroom.
If you ever read the book Holes by Louis Sachar, we got to live in that setting for a night!
Here is a video filmed by Charlie of them drilling the holes. Charlie is a big fan of watching satisfying videos on YouTube, so lucky for him he got to see some satisfying things up close this week!

Here are some of the holes all around, I am happy to report none of us took a tumble down one!

One other exciting bit of demolition, the ugly green painted patio that connected the house to the barn is removed & waiting to get hauled away!
They then began setting the piers into the holes...
Then on Friday, they began filling in the cement for the foundation. Unfortunately, it is the season in Maine where they post "Heavy Loads Restricted" on the roads. This protects the roads from damage but complicates things a bit for a builder. The cement truck had to park down on Portland Street (the end of the block) and they had to ferry the cement up load by load to do what you see below...
Although we have been thilled to have some warmer spring-like weather in the 50's, they really need one cold night & morning so they can get permission to get the cement truck up our street. Tonight and into Monday morning they are hoping is the right combination-supposed to be in the teens, so it should do the trick.
The foundation guys worked all day Saturday to get the kitchen foundation molds ready...here they are waiting for cement...
We are excited for them to begin building the new porch as we think it is really going to make the house have some great curb appeal and we look forward to having our neighbors and friends for coffee on day on what will be a beautiful porch!
Here is the vision for the front porch, taken from a porch that was featured in the Maine Home Magazine July 2020 issue.

Note: I am most concerned about my gardening abilities to eventually have a beautiful green plant growing up the lattice, as I will probably never be able to pull that off!
